LAKE ANDREWS BUSINESSES
George W. Andrews Lake is an U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 29 miles south of Walter F. George Lake and north of Lake Seminole. The lake is very riverine in nature but is noted for good fishing. The purpose of the dam is for river navigation via the lock at George W. Andrews Dam. There is no hydroelectric generation at this location. The lake is named for George W. Andrews.
In 1953, a resolution was adopted by the House Committee on Public Works for the development of the ACF River Basin. The Walter F. George,George W. Andrews and Woodruff Lock and Dam - Lake Seminole projects were authorized for navigation, power generation and stream flow regulation. Recreational facilities at the lakes were authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1944. The lakes have been operational since 1963. |
